Orange Tennis Stays Perfect at Home

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse tennis team remains undefeated at home after tallying its third sweep of the season with a 6-0 victory over Yale, Sunday morning at Drumlins Country Club.

"We had a lot of close matches adn the team showed a lot of grit and resilience," said head coach Younes Limam. "Our two captains Anna and Nicole have been doing a great job leading our team, day-in and day-out."

Due to a forfeit by Yale at No. 3 doubles, only two doubles matches were played with Syracuse coming out on top in both contests. Despite being down early, 1-0, the No. 1 duo of Gabriela Knutson and Miranda Ramirez battled back to take a 6-3 win. Anna Shkudun and Sofya Golubovskaya clinched the doubles point for Syracuse with a 6-4 win at the No. 2 doubles position.

Junior Libi Mesh kicked things off for the Orange in the singles portion of the match, cruising to a quick 6-0, 6-4 victory over her Yale opponent. Shkudun followed with a two-set win of her own (6-3, 6-2) at the No. 3 singles position. Golubovskaya battled Yale's Valerie Shklover to a tiebreak in set one, coming out on top 7-6 (5) before tallying the match-clinching point for the Orange with a 6-2 win in set two.

With a set one win behind her, Nicole Mitchell entered set two looking to add to the Syracuse lead over the Bulldogs. Down 5-1, Mitchell made an impressive comeback to defeat her Yale opposition 7-5, for her second win of the season.

Ramirez played out a gritty three-game match at the No. 1 singles, ultimately coming out on top, 6-1, 2-6, 6-3, to complete the sweep for the Orange.
