Orange Outlast Lindenwood for Series Split

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Syracuse ice hockey team split the season series with Lindenwood after defeating the Lions 5-4, Saturday afternoon at Lindenwood Ice Arena. Five different players scored for the Orange, while Alysha Burriss tallied four assists in the contest.
"It was a nice come-from-behind victory," said head coach Paul Flanagan. "We were behind the better part of two periods and scored twice to take the lead and didn't look back."
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
Lindenwood got on the board first with just under five minutes to go in the first period. Junior Allie Munroe quickly responded for the Orange, sniping a wrister through traffic to tie the game at one heading into the first intermission.
The Lions once again took a one-goal lead on a score by Hannah Alt but, in similar fashion as the first period, Syracuse scored just over a minute later when Savannah Rennie picked up a loose puck and buried it in the back of the net. Redshirt sophomore Lindsay Eastwood gave the Orange their first lead of the night on a slapshot from the blueline to make it a 3-2 game after two periods.
The Orange kicked off the third period with a power play just a minute into the frame. Freshman Emma Polaski converted on the extra-man opportunity, making it a two-goal game for the first time in the contest. Four minutes later, Brooke Avery extended the Syracuse lead to three goals, picking up her own rebound to beat a sprawling Lindenwood goalie. The Lions responded with a pair of goals but the game would finish in favor of the Orange.
OF NOTE
There was a lot of contribution on offense as five different Syracuse players tallied a goal in the contest. Polaski finished the night with a goal and two assists for the first three-point game of her career.
Burriss notched a team-best four assists in the victory, setting a new career-high for single-game dishes. Her previous high was two, which occurred most recently against RIT on Feb. 19. Four assists are the most by an Orange since Oct. 21, 2015 when Melissa Piacentini tallied four in a 7-1 victory over RIT. The senior now ranks tied for fourth on the all-time record list for career points with 91.
Munroe now sits tied for fifth in program history for points by a defenseman, totaling 44 in her three-year career with the Orange.
UP NEXT
The Orange return to Tennity for their final home series of the 2017-18 regular season, hosting Robert Morris for a two-game set on Feb. 23 and 24. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Admission to all home games at Tennity Ice Pavilion is free. The Orange will honor their five seniors on Saturday for Senior Day.
