SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse ice hockey team hosts No. 9 Robert Morris for its final home series of the 2017-18 regular season. The Orange will honor their five seniors for Senior Day on Saturday, Feb. 24 as they take the ice at Tennity for the final time in their colleigate career.
Last Time Out
Syracuse split its final road series against Lindenwood last weekend, coming away with two crucial conference points. Five different Orange scored in game two including a three-point game (one goal, two assists) by freshman Emma Polaski, the first of her career.
Senior Alysha Burriss tallied four assists for 'Cuse in game two, setting a new personal career-high in single-game assists and single-game points. She was the first Orange to notch four assists in a game since Melissa Piacentini did so on Oct. 21, 2015 in a 7-1 victory over RIT.
Series History
Syracuse and Robert Morris have faced off 39 times in program history with the Orange hodling the 16-14-9 edge in the all-time series. Syracuse is 9-7-2 when playing at home against the Colonials. Twenty-four of the 39 games played between the schools have been decided by one or fewer goals.
The Orange and the Colonials met earlier this season for a two-game set in Moon Township. Both teams came away with a win as freshman Edith D'Astous-Moreau tallied her first career win in game two, a 4-2 victory for Syracuse.
Salute to the Seniors
The Orange will recognize five seniors on Saturday – Burriss, Stephanie Grossi, Megan Quinn, Dakota Derrer and Abbey Miller.
The four skating seniors each played over 100 games for the Orange, led by Burriss who suited up in 138 games for Syracuse. The seniors combined for 103 career goals and 161 career assists (264 career points), with all four finishing their careers with positive plus/minus ratings.
The only senior goalie, Miller, started in 60 of her 65 games played as an Orange. Heading into the weekend, Miller holds a 1.95 career goals against average and has totaled 1267 career saves, good for a .915 save percentage. The senior set a program record with 11 shutouts during her career.
Postseason Outlook
The Orange are on the cusp of a potential first round bye in the CHA tournament but need to win their two remaining games to grab the second seed. Should the season end today, Syracuse would come in at No. 3 in the CHA standings, set to face RIT on March 1 in the quarter finals.
