Orange Tennis Snags Fourth Straight Win

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The No. 43 Syracuse tennis team notched its fourth consecutive win with a 6-1 defeat of Brown, Saturday morning at Pizzitola Sports Center. The Orange move to 7-1 on the season with a 1-1 record in Atlantic Coast Conference Action.

"Our team played with a lot of character and heart," said head coach Younes Limam. "If we continue to compete with this type of effort and focus, very good things will follow."

Syracuse kicked off the match with a decisive doubles point victory as both the No. 1 doubles pair (Gabriela Knutson and Miranda Ramirez) and the No. 2 doubles duo (Anna Shkudun and Sofya Golubovskaya) each recorded 6-0 wins.

Two of the five singles matches went to three sets, including the match between No. 19 Knutson and Alyza Benotto at the No. 1 singles position. Knutson dropped the first set 2-6 but battled back in sets two and three to win 7-6 (4) and 6-0, respectively. The other three set match came at No. 4 singles with Shkudun squeaking out the comeback win (4-6, 6-1, 7-5), as well.

Ramirez tallied her sixth, two-set win, with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Brown's Maddie Stearns at No. 2 singles. The sophomore is currently riding a four-game win streak and boasts a 6-1 record on the season. Golubovskaya and Mesh each notched victories of their own to secure the 6-1 victory for Syracuse.
