SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange head to Chapel Hill, N.C., to face the University of North Carolina Tar Heels on Thursday night inside Carmichael Arena. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. and will be covered live on ACC Network Extra. Fans can also tune in to the Syracuse IMG Sports Network with Brian Higgins on the call.Â
Syracuse University's women's basketball team will play its final home game of the regular season on Sunday, February 25, at 2 pm against Boston College. The Orange will recognize their three seniors Jasmine Nwajei, Abby Grant and Marisa Romeo during Senior Day celebrations. Tickets are available online, by phone (1-888-DOME-TIX) and in person at the Carrier Dome Box Office. The game will be carried on ACC Network Extra.
Syracuse (20-7, 8-6 in the ACC) rides a three-game win streak into Thursdays ACC tilt. The Orange reached the 20-win milestone on Monday night with a 62-53 win over Pittsburgh on the road.
Sophomore Tiana Mangakahia leads the nation in assists (268) and assists per game (9.9) and is pacing Syracuse with 17.9 points per game. Four members of 'Cuse's squad are averaging double figures with Miranda Drummond, Digna Strautmane and Gabrielle Cooper combining joining Mangakahia in double figures.
The Orange is averaging 73.5 points per game and is shooting 40.7 percent from the field. They average 9.4 3-pointers per game and are led by Drummond who's tallied team-best 68 shots from beyond the arc this season.
North Carolina (14-13, 4-10 ACC) is led by Paris Kea who averages 19.4 points per game. Jamie Cherry and freshman Janelle Bailey add 15.3 and 15.2 points per game, respectively, to UNC's 79.3 points per game.
After defeating then-No.15 Duke, 92-86, in overtime on Jan. 21 the Tar Heels have lost seven-straight games and have not won a game inside Carmichael Arena since. North Carolina is 11-7 at home this season and will look to bounce back after a 10-point loss to No. 4 Louisville at home last Sunday.
SERIES HISTORY
Thursday night marks the ninth meeting between the Orange and Tar Heels. Syracuse has won the last two meetings and the all-time series is tied 4-4.
The two met twice last season, once during the regular season and once during the ACC Tournament. In both contests, 'Cuse defeated the Tar Heels.
During last year's ACC Tournament, seniors Brittney Sykes and Briana Day both recorded double-doubles while Alexis Peterson scored a team-best 29 points.
