'Cuse Tennis Tops Harvard for Weekend Sweep

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Syracuse tennis team tallied its second road win of the weekend with a 6-1 victory over Harvard, Sunday morning at the Murr Center. The Orange have won five straight matches and are 2-1 when playing away from Drumlins this season.

"It was a great team effort today," said head coach Younes Limam. "The ladies played some of the most dominating doubles that I have seen in a while, and followed that by a lot of toughness on every court in singles. We are improving in a lot of areas compared to a month ago."

For the fourth straight contest, Syracuse started the match 1-0 after taking the doubles point. The No. 19 duo of Gabriela Knutson and Miranda Ramirez stayed perfect at No. 1 doubles after defeating their Harvard opposition 6-1. At No. 2 doubles, Anna Shkudun and Sofya Golubovskaya tallied a 6-1 victory of their own to clinch the doubles point.

It was a battle through the singles rounds as four of the six matches included tiebreaks with the Orange emerging victorious in all four tiebreak sets. Knutson defeated Erica Oosterhout for her seventh straight win at No. 1 singles, staying perfect at the top. Just behind her, Ramirez won her match 6-3, 6-2 to move to 7-1 on the season.

Golubovskaya and Mesh each played tiebreaks, which they won, however Golubovskaya's was a grueling three-set match (7-6 (4), 4-6, 10-7). At the No. 6 singles Maria Tritou cruised to a two-set victory, 6-3, 6-1, to put away the match for Syracuse.
