SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Supermodel and body image activist Melissa 'Emme' Aronson '85, will be attending a series of events through Falk College and the College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) on February 27 and 28 that will coincide with National Eating Disorder Awareness Week.
Known as the world's first curvy supermodel, Emme rowed for the Orange during her undergraduate years at Syracuse and is a member of the Syracuse University Orange Plus Hall of Fame, where she was inducted for her significant contribution to women's athletics and the sport of rowing.
Emme was the first model invited to speak before a Congressional subcommittee in Washington, D.C. with a mission to increase public awareness of eating and body image disorders.
She will be at the documentary film screening of Straight/Curve: Redefining Body Image on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 5:30 pm. On Wednesday, she will be speaking as part of the Third Annual Ann Selkowitz Litt Distinguished Speaker Series at 5:15 pm. Following Wednesday's lecture titled "Facing our fears: Embracing the ones we're with" there will be a reception, book signing and Fashion Without Limits Pop-Up Show. Both events are set to take place in the Grant Auditorium located in the Falk Complex and are open to the public.
Emme was last on campus for the ESPNW Campus Conversations event on Oct. 27, 2017, where she joined four other highly successful Syracuse University graduates who shared their professional wisdom and advice with current Orange female student-athletes.
