SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Gabrielle Cooper, Miranda Drummond and Digna Strautmane of the Syracuse University women's basketball team were all named to the Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic Team according to a league announcement on Friday morning. The trio joins 27 other student-athletes to compile the 30 person team.
To be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must have earned a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and hold a 3.0 cumulative average during their academic career.
Cooper, a Lansing, Ill., native is currently enrolled in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics and is pursuing a degree in psychology at Syracuse. Cooper has started in all 30 games for the Orange this season and ranks sixth in the ACC in 3-pointers made with 78. She is third on the team in scoring with 10.7 points per game and is fourth with 5.4 rebounds per game. This is the second-straight year Cooper has landed a spot on the league's All-Academic Team.
Drummond, a redshirt junior from Binghamton, N.Y., is second on the team in scoring with 14.6 points per game and is averaging 32.8 minutes per game. Majoring in health & exercise science in the School of Education, Drummond ranks top-15 in the league in scoring in points per game and third in free throw percentage (.857) and ninth in 3-point field goal percentage (.391). Additionally, she ranks seventh in 3-pointers made (77) and top-15 in offensive rebounds (76).
On Tuesday, Strautmane was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team by both the league's head coaches and the Blue Ribbon Panel. The Latvia native is fourth on the team in scoring and ranks third in the ACC in blocked shots with 57. She's averaging 6.3 rebounds per game and has tallied four 10-rebound games this season. Strautmane is enrolled in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics and is majoring in human development.
The Orange checked in at No. 23 in this week's USA Today Coaches Poll and are receiving votes in the AP Top-25. Syracuse was eliminated in the second round of the ACC Tournament on Thursday in an 85-70 loss to Virginia Tech and will now wait to find out its postseason fate during the NCAA Tournament Selection Show on Monday, March 12, at 7 pm.
