SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange return to Drumlins for the final two home matches of the 2018 regular season, beginning with No. 4 Duke on Friday. 'Cuse looks to rebound after a pair of losses to two top-25 opponents last weekend, eyeing a strong finish in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Â
Last Time Out…
On Friday, the Orange squared off with No. 19 Florida State, battling through the match but coming up short, 5-2. Two days later, Syracuse couldn't manage to find success against a red-hot, 18th-ranked Miami team, facing a 6-0 shutout on Sunday.
Â
Making a Name for Herself…
Despite the team setback, junior Gabriela Knutson went 3-for-4 on the weekend with her only loss coming to the 6th-ranked player in the country. Knutson checked in at No. 4 in the Oracle/ITA Singles Rankings this week, continuing to make Syracuse program history.
Â
The Czech Republic holds a 15-2 record in singles play this season, defeating eight top-75 opponents with five of those victories coming on the road. Knutson's two losses of the season came against the current second and third player in the country.
Â
Scouting the Blue Devils…
The Blue Devils check in at No. 4 in this week's Oracle/ITA rankings, while sitting in second in the ACC with a 9-1 record in conference acÂtion. Duke's only losses this seaÂson came at the hands of a pair of ranked opponents, No. 1 UNC and No. 3 Georgia Tech.
Â
Scouting the Fighting Irish…
Notre Dame sits at an even .500 on the season (10-10) with just two wins in conference play. The Fighting Irish ride a seven-game losing streak into the weekend and will face Boston College on Friday before traveling to 'Cuse for Sunday's match.
Â
Senior Sendoff…
The Orange will be honoring two seniors on Sunday, Nicole Mitchell and Anna Shkudun. Each senior eclipsed the 50-career wins mark this season and have appeared on the ACC Academic Honor Roll in multiple seasons. Shkudun became the first player since 1996 to be invited to the NCAA Singles Championship in 2016.
Â
Admission to all home matches at Drumlins Tennis Club is free and free pizza is available to all spectators.
