
Orange Face 4-2 Setback at Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 25 Syracuse tennis team faced a 4-2 loss to No. 19 Florida State, Friday night at Scott Spiecher Tennis Center. The Orange battled back to tie the match a two in the singles round but couldn't convert the final two points for the match victory.
Florida State took an early 1-0 lead after tallying the doubles point in a three-match battle. The third doubles pair from the home team took a decisive 6-1 victory over Syracuse's Dina Hegab and Maria Tritou. At first singles, the No. 12 duo of Gabriela Knutson and Miranda Ramirez cruised to a 6-4 win over No. 63 Carla Touly and Ariana Rahmanparast to tie the doubles portion at one.
With all eyes on the second doubles match, 'Cuse's Sofya Golubovskaya and Anna Shkudun came back from down 5-2 to make it a 5-4 match, but the Seminoles emerged victorious, 6-4 to give Florida State the doubles point.
A retirement at first singles for Florida State's Carly Touly tied the match up at one and gave Knutson her 15th win of the season, 10th in ACC action. The Seminoles took the lead once again after Ramirez fell in two sets, 2-6, 3-6, to Petra Hule at second singles.
On court four, Shkudun dominated her singles match, tallying 6-2 and 6-1 wins in sets one and two, respectively, to knot the overall match at two. However, the Seminoles found themselves up 3-2 as Golubovskaya came up short at third singles, 4-6, 3-6.
Down to the final two singles matches of the day, junior Libi Mesh came up short in set one, 6-2 but battled back in set two, forcing an extra game, but couldn't come up with the win in set two, falling 7-5. With the score 4-2, the Orange and the Seminoles agreed to leave the fifth singles match unfinished.
