
‘Cuse Faces 6-0 Shutout at No. 18 Miami

MIAMI, Fla. - Despite a battle between two top-25 teams, the No. 25 Syracuse tennis team could not find success against the 18th-ranked Hurricanes, Sunday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. The Orange look to rebound from a pair of losses when they host No. 3 Duke on Friday, April 13 at 5 p.m. at Drumlins Country Club.
At first doubles, Gabriela Knutson and Miranda Ramirez got the ball rolling for the Orange, defeating the No. 66 duo from Miami, 6-4, for the first doubles match win for 'Cuse. A 6-3 loss at second doubles and a 6-4 loss at third doubles for the Orange put Miami ahead 1-0 entering singles play.
The Hurricanes carried their momentum into the singles marches, as Ramirez fell to 75th-ranked Sinead Lohan in a pair of 6-1, 6-1 sets. Wins at fourth and first singles clinched the match for Miami with a 4-0 lead. At fifth singles, Anna Shkudun waged a first-set battle, coming up just short 7-5. Set two went the way of the Hurricanes with a 6-4 win for Miami's Ulyana Shirokova.
Freshman Sofya Golubovskaya and junior Dina Hegab each forced their matches into a third set but could not overcome their competition from Miami.
