Women's Rowing Finishes 16th at NCAA National Championship

Sarasota, Fla. – For the third-straight year the Syracuse University women's rowing team had a strong showing at the NCAA National Championship. What was originally intended for a three-day event changed to a two-day championship weekend with inclement weather anticipated for Sunday. On Saturday morning, the Orange qualified for the Petite Final in the second varsity eight while the varsity eight and varsity four both reached the C Finals in their respective races.
Syracuse finished 16th overall with 52 total points.
The 2V8 placed earned the highest finish of Syracuse's crews placing fifth in the Petite Final for an 11th-place overall finish. 'Cuse clocked in at 6:41.1 edging Iowa who finished sixth with a time of 6:41.9.
In the varsity eight, Syracuse placed fourth in the C Final to finish 16th overall amongst varsity eight boats. The Orange, led by coxswain Rebecca Spraggins and stroke Ashley Johnson crossed the line in 6:36.4 safely ahead of Gonzaga (6:42.2) and a second and a half behind Wisconsin (6:34.9).
The Orange also earned a 16th-place overall finish in the varsity four which placed fourth in the C Final. Princeton won the C Final with a time of 7:26.6, Navy crossed the line second and the Orange (7:33.9) were just behind Wisconsin (7:30.0).
Saturday marked the final event of head coach Justin Moore's tenure at the helm of the women's rowing program. He announced his resignation last week after he was presented an opportunity to influence the sport in a different way. During Moore's tenure, he elevated the Syracuse's women's rowing program to a national contender, which included back-to-back Atlantic Coast Conference finishes in 2017 & 2018 and three consecutive NCAA Championship At-Large bids.
