Galloway Leads U.S. Over Canada, Iroquois Roll Australia
7/16/2018 8:38:00 AM | Men's Lacrosse
Five days have gone by at the FIL World Lacrosse Championships and the players with Orange ties have continued to shine in Netanya, Israel.
On Sunday, in a rematch of the previous gold medal games of this competition, John Galloway, Joel White and the American squad downed Canada 11-10 in a thriller.
Both players played crucial roles all game, but their play in the final quarter is what sealed it for Team USA. White caused a key turnover at the start of the frame, allowing a fast-break runout for the U.S. squad, and leading to a goal. Galloway came up with a point-blank save with four minutes to go, while trailing by one, to allow America's offense to knot it on the other end.
Galloway made eight saves in cage for Team USA.
The Iroquois Nationals have also continued their hot play after an initial loss to Team USA. Randy Staats posted a hat trick and Brendan Bomberry scored a goal and contributed an assist in a dominant 19-7 win over Australia.
Monday will feature more Orange in action.
At 1:45 p.m., Nathan McPeak and Hakeem Lecky will lead the Jamaican squad to play Slovakia. At 2 p.m. another key blue division matchup will feature the Iroquois Nationals vs. Canada, in what likely will determine the No. 2 seed and first round bye in the Championship Bracket. That game will be televised on ESPNU. U.S. and Scotland will play at 2:45 p.m.
