SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Thirteen fresh new faces join the Syracuse University women's rowing squad this season. Of the thirteen, the Orange hail from nine different states and two different countries.
"We are excited to welcome this year's incoming class to Syracuse University," first year head coach Luke McGee said. "Through the recruiting process the energetic personality of this class has been apparent. Transfers Sydney Michalak and Rachel Pierce will bring a lot of quality racing experience to our team and the true first-years are athletic and eager to compete for Syracuse.
Michalak, stands a six-feet tall and hails from Petersborough, N.Y. She spent her undergraduate years rowing at New Hampshire. Pierce joins the Orange from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pa.
"This mix of experience and excitement will create a very fun combination of athletes to coach. All of our recruited athletes will play an important role on the squad as we embark on another great year."
Syracuse earned its third-straight NCAA Championship bid in 2017 and placed 16th overall. 'Cuse finished as the Atlantic Coast Conference runner-up for the second-straight year last spring.
