Orange Set to Open Fall Season at Princeton

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse tennis team is back on the court. The Orange kick off their fall season this weekend at the Princeton Invitational in Princeton, N.J., where seniors Dina Hegab, Libi Mesh and Maria Tritou and freshman newcomer Sofya Treshcheva will compete.
SCHEDULE
The Orange open the tournament Friday afternoon, playing Temple in doubles at 3 p.m. before facing Penn in singles play shortly thereafter. Syracuse takes on Penn in doubles at 10 a.m. Saturday and Princeton in a doubles match after that. The Orange wrap up their second day of action against Temple in singles at 1:30 p.m.
Syracuse closes out its weekend with a singles match against Princeton at 9 a.m. Sunday.
MEET THE ORANGE IN ACTION
Hegab, originally from Giza, Egypt, finished last year with the team's second-best single record in dual play, posting a 14-5 mark. She recorded the Orange's lone singles victory against Wichita State at the NCAA Tournament, winning 6-3, 1-5, retired.
Mesh, a Haifa, Israel native, finished last season with an 11-7 record in singles action and a 3-1 mark in doubles play. She went 9-4 in tour play last fall.
Tritou totaled 28 wins in tour and dual play combined last season. Originally from Rhodes, Greece, she was one of five Orange student-athletes to make a tournament finals appearance in 2017-18.
Treshcheva is making her Orange debut this weekend. The freshman is from Moscow, Russia.
GET TO KNOW THE OPPONENTS
Princeton, the host university, begins its fall season this weekend, as well. The Tigers finished last year with a 19-4 overall record, going 15-1 at home and a perfect 7-0 in Ivy League play, and advanced to the NCAA Regionals, suffering a 4-3 defeat against Illinois.
Temple also opens its fall season this weekend. Last year, the Owls went 10-8 overall, finishing their season with 4-0 loss against SMU at the American Athletic Conference Championships.
Penn, an Ivy opponent, finished 9-13 last season and will open its fall 2018 season this weekend.
LOOKING AHEAD
The other half of the Syracuse tennis squad - senior Gabriela Knutson, junior Miranda Ramirez and junior newcomer Guzal Yusupova and sophomore Sofya Golubovskaya - makes its fall season debuts next weekend. The foursome travels to Milwaukee, Wisc., to compete in the Milwaukee Tennis Classic.
