SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Fresh off another top-10 finish at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championship last spring, the Syracuse University men's rowing team begins its 2018-19 slate at the world-famous Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday, Oct. 21. The Orange race twice more during the fall season, and begin spring competition on Saturday April 6 when they challenge Wisconsin in a dual in Chicago.
Syracuse seeks its 13th Goes Trophy, and first since 2011, when the Orange travel to Annapolis, Md. on Saturday, April 20 to face Navy and Cornell. Last season, 'Cuse won the Stagg Trophy which, is awarded to the team that compiles the most overall points in the heavyweight races between Syracuse, Navy and Cornell.
A rare double header is set for April 27 in Overpeck, N.J. when the Orange face Boston University and Columbia for the Conlan Cup. Last season, BU took the Conlan Cup back to Boston for the fourth time in five years. Syracuse's trio of varsity eight boats defeated Columbia in all three races.
The Orange host Dartmouth on April 28 to cap off cup season with hopes to repeat as Packard Cup champions. Last year, No. 12 Syracuse edged No. 8 Dartmouth by nearly two seconds to claim the Packard Cup for the 29th time since it was first contested in 1960.
Eastern Sprints is set for Sunday, May 19 in Worcester, Ma., where 'Cuse aims to qualify multiple boats for the IRA National Championship.
Should the Orange qualify for the IRA Championship, they would head to Sacramento, Calif. for the event, which begins Sunday, May 31. Last time the IRA Championship was held in California was 2017 when Syracuse finished eighth, the team's sixth top-10 finish under head coach Dave Reischman.
Last season, the Orange varsity eight placed eighth at the IRA Championship, improving Syracuse's count to seven top-10 finishes during the Reischman era.
