SYRACUSE, N.Y. – College Hockey America's top team comes to Tennity Ice Pavilion this weekend.
Syracuse women's hockey is set to host first-place Robert Morris for a two-game series, which begins at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18. The puck drops in the second contest between the two CHA foes at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19.
ABOUT THE SERIES
This is the first meeting this season between Syracuse and Robert Morris. The Orange are 16-16-9 all-time against the Colonials, including a 9-9-2 home record.Â
Syracuse is 2-6-0 in the last eight meetings between the two, dating back to November 5, 2016.Â
Robert Morris and Syracuse will play twice more this season after Friday and Saturday's contests. The two will close out their regular seasons at Robert Morris on Friday, March 1st and Saturday, March 2nd.
SCOUTING THE COLONIALS
Robert Morris enters Friday's contest on a two-game losing streak, dropping both contests at Minnesota by scores of 6-1 and 5-0. The Colonials, however, have won five straight CHA matchups, dating back to October 27.
Junior forward Jaycee Gebhard leads the squad in goals (15), assists (18) and points (33) this season. She's the leading scorer in the conference this season. Senior goaltender Lauren Bailey has started 18 games in net, posting a 2.59 goals against average and a .895 save percentage.
WHAT'S NEW WITH THE ORANGE
Syracuse visited RIT last Friday but was not able to overcome the Tigers' potent attack, allowing four first-period goals in a 4-2 loss. The loss moved Syracuse's record to 4-16-1 overall and 4-4-0 in CHA play.
The Orange outshot RIT 40-36, with freshman forward Abby Moloughney and redshirt senior forward Brooke Avery each scoring goals, but it was not enough to overcome the early four-goal deficit. Mid-year transfer goaltender Allison Small started in goal and made 13 saves in the first period, before senior goaltender Maddie Welch took over in the second period and shut out RIT for the rest of the contest.
WHAT LIES AHEAD
The home swing continues next weekend with another CHA opponent in town. Syracuse plays Penn State at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25 and 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26 inside Tennity.Â
