SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange face another test against a College Hockey America opponent this weekend.
Syracuse women's hockey welcomes Penn State (10-9-4, 4-6-0 CHA) for a two-game series, which begins at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25 inside Tennity Ice Pavilion. The puck drops in the second contest between the two conference foes at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26.
ABOUT THE SERIES
This is the third and fourth meeting this season between Syracuse and Penn State. Syracuse swept the first two games at Penn State, 1-0 and 5-2, back in early November.
The Orange are 23-1-4 all-time against the Nittany Lions, including a 9-0-3 home record. The last time the Orange lost to Penn State was in a 4-2 decision on January 31, 2015.
SCOUTING THE NITTANY LIONS
Penn State enters the series on a two-game winning streak, sweeping CHA foe Lindenwood by the scores of 3-0 and 2-1 last weekend.
Sophomore forward Natalie Heising leads the Nittany Lions in goals (12) and points (23). Her 12 goals and 23 points are second most in CHA this season.
Junior goaltender Jenna Brenneman, meanwhile, has started 22 games in net for Penn State, posting a CHA-best 1.63 goals-against-average and a .932 save percentage.
WHAT'S NEW WITH THE ORANGE
Syracuse is in the midst of a five-game home swing and enters this weekend with a 5-17-1 overall record, including a 5-5-0 mark in conference play. The Orange split last weekend's two-game series with Robert Morris, picking up a 3-2 overtime win Friday before dropping Saturday's contest by a score of 5-1.Â
Redshirt junior defenseman Lindsay Eastwood scored the game-winning goal in overtime on Friday to seal the 3-2 victory. She scored the Orange's lone goal on Saturday, as well, but it was not enough for Syracuse to earn the series sweep against the Colonials.
WHAT LIES AHEAD
Syracuse will gear up for a quick turnaround when No. 6 Cornell comes to Tennity next Tuesday, Jan. 29. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7 p.m..
