ITA Kick-Off Weekend Up Next for #24 Orange

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The No. 24th-ranked Syracuse women's tennis team continues its 2019 season at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Oxford, Miss. The Orange will go up against No. 9 Michigan at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, before meeting either Purdue or No. 12 Ole Miss at 12 p.m. or 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27.
SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES
Michigan enters the weekend ranked No. 9 nationally in the ITA poll. The Wolverines are led by head coach Ronni Bernstein, who is in her 12th season at the helm of the program.
Senior Kate Fahey is Michigan's top-ranked singles player at No. 3 in the country, per the ITA poll. The Wolverines also have three other ranked singles players on their squad, with senior Brienne Minor at No. 27, junior Chiara Lommer at No. 36 and junior Giulia Pairone at No. 65.
SCOUTING THE BOILERMAKERS
Purdue is coming off a weekend sweep, as it moved past DePaul, 5-2, before beating Butler, 4-0, that same day. Laura Glitz leads the Boilermakers in her 12th season as head coach of the program.
Senior Silvia Ambrosio is Purdue's top singles player, ranking No. 19 in the ITA poll.
SCOUTING THE REBELS
Ole Miss hosts this weekend's action as the No. 12th-ranked team in the country. Head coach Mark Beyers enters his 18th season with the program. He was named the 2018 ITA South Region Coach of the Year last year, his third such distinction.
Sophomore Sabina Machalova is the No. 68th-ranked singles player in the country, the highest on the team. Junior Alexa Bortles and freshman Isolde de Jong make up the No. 16th-ranked doubles pairing for Ole Miss.
WHAT'S NEW WITH THE ORANGE
Syracuse started off the 2019 season with authority last weekend, silencing Brown, 7-0, on Saturday and then Columbia, 5-2, on Sunday. The Orange continued to find success with No. 43rd-ranked junior Gabriela Knutson and No. 92nd-ranked sophomore Sofya Golubovskaya leading the charge.
Knutson and Golubovskaya picked up where they left off in the fall, sweeping their four singles matches to start the 2019 season.
WHAT LIES AHEAD
The Orange will return home for its ACC opener at 2 p.m Friday, February 1 against Virginia. Syracuse then heads to Chestnut Hill, MA to face Boston College at 10 a.m. Sunday, February 3.Â
