Durham, N.C. – Syracuse University's 13th-ranked women's basketball team faces Duke (9-9, 1-5 ACC) inside Cameron Indoor Stadium at 1 p.m. Sunday. The Orange look to snap a two-game Atlantic Coast Conference skid while the Blue Devils search for their second in win conference play. Fans can watch live on Regional Sports Networks, including YES Network in Syracuse, with Tom Werme and LaChina Robinson on the call.
After a 4-0 start in ACC action, Syracuse has lost back-to-back regular season games for the first time since Feb. 1 (Virginia Tech) and Feb. 4 (Louisville) last year. The Orange are 15-4 overall and 4-2 in ACC play heading into Sunday afternoon. 'Cuse averages 79.2 points per game this season and is outscoring opponents by an average of 15.1 points per game. Tiana Mangakahia leads the Orange with 16.1 points and 7.9 assists per game. Last time out, Kiara Lewis poured in a career-high 16 points in Syracuse's first home loss of the season, 84-71, to Miami.
Duke broke a five-game losing streak with a home win over Wake Forest on Thursday night. It was the first conference win of the season for the Blue Devils after taking losses to NC State, Louisville, Georgia Tech, Miami and Florida State. Haley Gorecki and Leaonna Odom lead Duke with 16.7 and 13.9 points per game. Third leading scorer Mikayla Boykin will miss the remainder of the season due to injury after contributing 9.4 points and 4.1 rebounds in eight games this year. The Blue Devils average 62.9 points per game and have held opponents to 29.5 percent from three-point range through their first 18 games.
Sunday is the eighth meeting between the two squads. Duke holds a 5-2 advantage all-time in the series but the Orange won last year's solo meeting, 68-65, upsetting then-ranked No. 17/16 Duke in the Carrier Dome on Feb. 15.
Syracuse women's basketball student-athletes are supporting Duke University's 'Mental Wealth Day' initiative and will be wearing special shirts during warm ups and on the bench. 'Mental Wealth Day' is a first of its kind event that was consructed to generate awareness and conversation about the importance of mental health.
The Orange return home to host Virginia on Thursday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. in the Carrier Dome. Tickets are available online.
