Knutson Tabbed ACC Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior Gabriela Knutson was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday, Jan. 29. Knutson defeated the No. 3-ranked singles player in the country and led the No. 24-ranked Syracuse women's tennis team to a 4-2 win over No. 9 Michigan at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend tournament over the weekend in Oxford, Miss.
Knutson shined in the Orange's win over Michigan last Saturday. Playing at the No. 1 position, the senior defeated the Wolverines' Kate Fahey, the No. 3-ranked singles player according to the ITA, in straight sets - 7-5, 6-4. Knutson also paired with junior Miranda Ramirez in doubles, and together they cruised to a 6-3 win over Michigan's duo of Fahey and Giulia Pairone.
Her efforts helped Syracuse advance to next month's ITA National Team Indoor Championships for the first time in program history.

Through the first two weeks of the season, Knutson owns a 3-1 record in both singles action and doubles play. She is the first Orange student-athlete to receive a weekly honor from the conference this season.

Knutson and the rest of the Orange host Virginia in their first dual of the ACC season Friday, Feb. 1. The match begins at 2 p.m. inside Drumlins Country Club. The dual will air on ACC Network Extra.
