
Syracuse Softball is Back on February 7

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The 2020 Syracuse softball schedule has been released, marking the 21st year of play for the Orange program. The slate features 17 meetings with teams who qualified for the 2019 Women's College World Series, including 2018 national champion Florida State.Â
Shannon Doepking enters her second season at the helm of the Syracuse program. The Orange return nine players from last year's team, including senior ace Alexa Romero, and junior Gabby Teran, who ranks 10th all-time in Syracuse history with a .320 career batting average.
The schedule features eight opponents who made the 2019 NCAA Tournament, including 2018 national-champion Florida State. Houston, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Louisville, Texas Tech, Louisiana Tech and South Florida are the other teams on 'Cuse's schedule who qualified for the big dance in 2019.
Syracuse opens the season at the Feldsberg Invitational in Miami, hosted by Florida International, on Feb. 7-9. The Orange will play five games against Cal, Michigan State, Penn State and FIU.Â
The following weekend, Syracuse will participate in the fifth annual Big Ten/ACC Softball Challenge, taking on Indiana and Rutgers at Duke. 'Cuse will face each team twice in three days in Durham, NC. Â
The Orange will close out the month with two separate tournaments in late February, beginning with the Houston Hilton Plaza Invitational. On Feb. 21-23, Syracuse will face Texas Tech, host-school Houston, Louisiana Tech and Princeton. The Orange then travel to Tampa, Fla. for the South Florida Tournament matching up against Rutgers, Texas A&M Corpus Christi and USF from Feb. 28 to March 1.
The tournament schedule concludes in Memphis, Tenn. on March 13-15 at the Tiger Classic. Syracuse will play a pair of games against Purdue, while also facing off against Memphis, Tennessee State and UMass Lowell.
Syracuse opens ACC play with three games against North Carolina in Chapel Hill beginning March 6. Other road conference opponents in 2020 include Clemson (March. 27-29), Florida State (April 10-12), and Notre Dame (April 24-26).
The Orange will open their home schedule at Skytop Softball Stadium on March 20 with a three-game series against Virginia. Other ACC opponents who travel to Syracuse include NC State (April 3-5), Boston College (April 17-19), and Louisville (May 1-3). The Orange also host local foes Binghamton (April 1), Colgate (April 8) and Canisius (April 22).Â

- 11 of the Orange's opponents finished the 2019 campaign with a top-85 RPI, accounting for at least 26 games of the 2020 schedule (can be as many as 28 games depending on tournament results).
- Syracuse will face six teams in 2020 for the first time in each program's history (Michigan State, Texas Tech, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Memphis, UMass Lowell, Clemson).
