SYRACUSE, N.Y. – A straight month of home matches in February and competition against seven programs that ended 2019 ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) top-25 highlight year 45 for the Syracuse tennis program.
Â
Syracuse is primed for a strong year following a 2019 season that culminated in the Orange reaching the third round of the ACC tournament and, for the second-consecutive season, the NCAA tournament. Leading the Orange in 2020 is All-American and Century Club-member Miranda Ramirez who went 18-8 in singles and 14-11 in doubles last year.
Â
The Orange will play 12 of their 20 matches at Drumlins Country Club in 2020, including nine straight at home from Jan. 26-March 1. Eleven of Syracuse's upcoming opponents ended 2019 with an ITA ranking, and six of them are coming to Drumlins. 'Cuse will host seven ACC foes this season, including 2019 ACC runner-up Duke on Feb. 23.
Â
The season kicks off Sunday, Jan. 19 when the Orange travel to Richmond, Va. for two days of action against Richmond and VCU. Syracuse's home opener is Jan. 26 against Cornell. 'Cuse then stays put for its next eight matches, a home stretch that includes the Feb. 15 ACC opener against Boston College.
Â
Syracuse plays four matches at home and four on the road in March before closing out the regular season with two road matches in April against Virginia Tech and Florida State.
Â
The ACC Tournament runs April 15-19 in Rome, Ga., followed by the NCAA Women's Tennis Championships May 14-23 in Stillwater, Okla.
Â
Syracuse went 14-13 (5-9 ACC) last season and returns four veterans in Ramirez, senior Guzal Yusupova, junior Sofya Golubovskaya, freshmen Sofya Treshcheva, and freshmen Polina Kozyreva and Kim Hansen.
