SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse women's tennis team moved to No. 19 in the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Top-25 Poll, which was released Wednesday, Feb. 13.
Syracuse, which began the season ranked at No. 24 before climbing to No. 10 in the Oracle/ITA poll, is currently 4-4 overall and 0-2 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. The Orange got out to a fast start, opening the year with a perfect 4-0 record after wins over Brown, Columbia, then-No. 9 Michigan and Purdue.
The team's ascent to No. 10 -Â the highest ranking in program history - had come after the Orange defeated both Michigan and Purdue at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend tournament on Jan. 26-27. Syracuse punched its ticket to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship for the first time ever as a result.
Syracuse has lost four straight duals since then. Three of the Orange's four losses, however, have come at the hands of nationally-ranked opponents - then-No. 19 Virginia, then-No. 7 Pepperdine and then-No. 16 Ohio State.Â
Syracuse remains one of seven Atlantic Coast Conference teams - tied for the most nationally - to appear in the poll. North Carolina (No. 2), Duke (No. 5), Miami (No. 15), NC State (No. 17), Virginia (No. 18) and Florida State (No. 20) are the ACC's other representatives.
The Tennis Channel/United States Tennis Association College Tennis poll, meanwhile, ranked the Orange as No. 23 in the country.
The Orange return to action this Friday, Feb. 15, when they host Colorado. The match begins at 3 p.m. inside Drumlins Country Club. The dual will air on ACC Network Extra.
