SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse women's hockey team sent off its five seniors with a victory. The Orange dominated Lindenwood, 5-1, Saturday afternoon inside Tennity Ice Pavilion to improve to 10-19-3 overall and 10-6-2 in College Hockey America play.
One night after scoring the game-winning goal on a penalty shot in overtime, freshman forward Abby Moloughney powered Syracuse's offense yet again with two more goals. Junior forwards Kelli Rowswell and Logan Hicks and sophomore forward Victoria Klimek also chipped in goals in the Orange's convincing win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a quiet first period, the Orange and the Lions combined for five goals in the second.
Rowswell opened the scoring with a goal four minutes into the period, giving the Orange a 1-0 lead. Klimek extended that advantage to two one minutes later, scoring her fourth goal of the year.
Lindenwood's Courtney Ganske had an answer for Syracuse's offensive outburst, though. She scored one minute after Klimek did, cutting the Orange's lead back down to one.
Klimek's goal, however, would prove to be the game-winner. The Orange scored three unanswered goals after Ganske's tally, including two from Moloughney and one from Hicks, en route to the 5-1 victory.
OF NOTE
Sophomore forward Emma Polaski logged her fourth multi-point game this season. She provided assists on Klimek's goal and Moloughney's first tally of the night.
Senior goaltender Maddi Welch made 13 saves in the win, shutting out Lindenwood in the first and third periods.
WHAT LIES AHEAD
The regular season comes to a close next weekend.
The Orange travel to Moon Township, Pa., to face Robert Morris twice. The puck drops at 7 p.m. Friday, March 1 and at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 2.
