The highly touted Syracuse pitching staff saw plenty of action with all five seeing time in the circle. Alexa Romero started against San Diego State, striking out two, before Sophie Dandola came in for relief. Dandola pitched nearly four innings of scoreless work before giving up six runs (five unearned) on six hits.
Sophomore Miranda Hearn saw the start against the Sooners for game two. Hearn had one of the most complete games of her young career giving up one run on two hits and tallying three strikeouts. She faced just 15 batters in her 3.2 innings of work. Peyton Schnackenberg, Logan Paul and Dandola put in solid innings of relief.
Syracuse's combined six hits in the two games came from six different players. Bryce Holmgren and Neli Casares-Maher led the Orange with two RBIs each against San Diego State.
GAME 1 VS. SAN DIEGO STATE, 9-8
The Orange showed a renewed presence offensively, tallying six hits against the Aztecs. After stranding two runners on base in the first inning, Syracuse recorded six runs on four hits in the second inning. The action got going with a deep double to center field by Toni Martin. Freshman Anya Gonzalez was struck by a pitch and advanced to second shortly after, thanks to a single from Dossett that scored Martin. A second hit by pitch loaded the bases for 'Cuse. Alicia Hansen's fielder's choice set up back-to-back hits by Holmgren and Casares-Maher to round out the explosive inning.
San Diego State took advantage of a pair of Syracuse errors in the bottom of the second to score a run before tacking on another two in the third. The Orange were able to add two runs in the top of the seventh for an 8-3 lead, after the Aztecs committed three consecutive errors. SDSU's hitters found their stride in the bottom of the seventh with a lead-off walk followed by a single. After Alicia Garcia reached on an error, Syracuse effectively fielded three straight fielder's choices' that kept the Aztecs off the board. A pair of single's and the Orange's second error set up the final five runs SDSU needed for the victory.
GAME 2 VS. OKLAHOMA, 6-0
The Sooners, Orange matchup quickly showed itself as a pitchers' duel. Oklahoma's Mariah Lopez and Miranda Hearn faced the minimum amount of batters in the two innings. Grace Lyons doubled in the third for the Sooners first hit of their season, but Hearn fielded a batted ball for the force out at first base. With two outs in the fourth, Fale Aviu launched a double before back-to-back walks loaded the bases. Syracuse limited the damage, giving up one run on a single from Raegan Rogers. Oklahoma tacked on a second run in the sixth after an error in right field before topping it off with four in the seventh.
