Orange Hold Steady in Oracle/ITA Poll

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse women's tennis team remained ranked No. 32 in the latest Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, which was released Tuesday, March 19.
In the singles rankings, senior Gabriela Knutson moved up two spots to No. 40, while junior Miranda Ramirez dropped to No. 90. The doubles duo of Knutson and Ramirez moved to No. 71 in the nation.
The Orange, who are 10-6 overall and 3-4 in Atlantic Coast Conference play this season, played two matches since last week's poll came out. Syracuse defeated Virginia Tech, 6-1, last Friday before losing at then-No. 15 Wake Forest, 5-2, this past Sunday.
Knutson, previously ranked No. 42, went undefeated (2-0) in singles action over that stretch, taking down Virginia Tech's then-No. 101 Natalie Novotna, 7-5, 4-6, 10-6, and Wake Forest's then-No. 46 Emma Davis in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Ramirez, previously ranked No. 77, also went undefeated (2-0) in singles play over that stretch, winning both of her matches in straight sets.
The Orange's top doubles pair, meanwhile, went 1-1 last week as the 70th-ranked duo in the nation. Knutson and Ramirez defeated Virginia Tech's Novotna and Rita Pinto, 7-6 (7-2), before losing to Wake Forest's then-No. 38 duo of Emma Davis and Chandler Carter, 7-6 (10-8).Â
North Carolina (No. 1), Duke (No. 3), NC State (No. 12), Florida State (No. 15), Wake Forest (No. 17), Virginia (No. 22), Miami (No. 25), Georgia Tech (No. 37) and Notre Dame (No. 40) are the ACC's other representatives in the team rankings.
Syracuse is home to host conference opponent Florida State this Sunday. First serve is set for 11 a.m. inside Drumlins Country Club. Admission and parking are free.
