
Softball Closes Out OSU/Tulsa Invitational

TULSA, OKLA. – Despite shutting out Tulsa (11-7) for the first three innings, Syracuse (5-11) was unable to hang onto the victory as the Hurricane defeated 'Cuse, 11-3, Saturday afternoon. The Orange's final game of the weekend against RV/#24 Illinois was canceled due to weather.
Sophie Dandola started the game in the circle for 'Cuse, going 4.1 frames. She allowed two runs on four hits with one walk and one strikeout. Alexa Romero (2-2) earned the decision after pitching 0.2 innings, giving up five runs on two hits with four walks. Peyton Schnackenberg also saw action throwing the final 0.2 inning.
Gabby Teran, Hannah Dossett and Toni Martin all picked up hits against Tulsa, while Martin had the lone RBI.
Syracuse took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning. Alex Acevedo started the offensive presence, drawing a walk on a full count. Acevedo moved to third following a wild pitch and groundout. Michala Maciolek drew the second walk of the inning, putting runners on the corners for Syracuse with two outs. An error by the Tulsa third baseman scored Acevedo. Teran laid down a bunt and was able to advance to second following a throwing error by the pitcher. The throwing error allowed Maciolek to score her first run of the season, giving 'Cuse a 2-0 lead.
Tulsa pushed a runner to third following a walk, stolen base and groundout – but a third ground out of the inning kept the Hurricane off the scoreboard.
Acevedo reached on a fielding error by the shortstop to lead off the fourth inning. A groundout by Maciolek advanced Acevedo to second. Martin swung on the first pitch for a double to right center that scored Acevedo.
The Hurricane led off the fourth inning with a double to the center field wall. A blooper single over the first baseman's head pushed the runner to third and put runners on the corner with no outs. Tulsa plated its first run of the game on a sac fly, cutting into the Orange's lead, 3-1.
Tulsa used a big fifth inning, that included fourth consecutive walks, to take a 7-3 lead. The Hurricane momentum continued in the sixth, as they led off the inning with a single to center field. A fielding error by Syracuse put a second runner on the basepaths, before a second hit loaded them up. A sixth Syracuse walk brought in the eight run, 8-3. An RBI double was all Tulsa needed to take the walk-off victory in six innings.
