WASHINGTON – Syracuse freshman Sarah Cooper has been added to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List. The 10 additions to the women's watch list were announced by the Tewaaraton Award Foundation on Thursday, March 21. She joins teammates Nicole Levy and Emily Hawryschuk on the Watch List.
Â
The defender has started all 11 games for the Orange. She leads the squad in caused turnovers (17) and is tied for the top spot on the team in ground balls (19). In addition, Cooper has 11 draw controls. She is tied for third in the ACC in caused turnovers per game (1.55).
Â
Cooper made an immediate impact on the Orange, recording five caused turnovers against Connecticut in the season opener. That total ties her for fourth on Syracuse's single-game record list. The Lutherville, Md. native was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Orange to victories against No. 13 Loyola and No. 7 Virginia. She posted five ground balls, four caused turnovers and three draw controls in the two wins.
Â
The Tewaaraton Award is presented annually to the top male and female collegiate lacrosse player in the nation. Another round of Watch List additions, if applicable, will be announced on April 11. The field will be narrowed down to 25 men's and women's nominees on April 25. Five women's and five men's finalists will be announced on May 9 and invited to the Tewaaraton Award Ceremony in Washington D.C. on May 30.
Â
Cooper and the No. 4 Orange go for their fourth straight win when they host No. 12/8 Notre Dame on Sunday, March 24. The game will be played at Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse at noon. Admission and parking are free. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
