CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. – Sophomore Gabby Teran crushed two home runs on the way to an 8-3 Syracuse (10-18, 2-4 ACC) victory in the series finale against Boston College (10-16, 2-4 ACC) Sunday afternoon. Teran is the first Orange player to hit multiple home runs in a game since Sydney O'Hara and Alyssa Dewes both did in the 2017 season.Â
Toni Martin also homered, her fourth of the season, making it the second game in 2019 that the Orange have totaled three home runs as a team. Alexa Romero (6-5) led the Orange in the circle with a complete game, allowing three runs on eight hits. The junior struck out nine with three walks.Â
For the first time this season, Syracuse played from behind and came out on top. Boston College scored in the first inning following a leadoff walk and RBI-single. The only other offensive effort for Boston College came on a two-RBI double in the bottom of the seventh.Â
The Orange promptly responded, tying the game in the second inning. Alex Acevedo led off the frame with a single through the right side and then took second base with her first career stolen base. A groundout moved Acevedo to third, before a Boston College throwing error plated the run.Â
It was all Syracuse through the next five innings as the Orange scored in four additional frames. Teran led off the third inning with her first home run of the season. Her solo shot gave Syracuse the go-ahead 2-1 lead, as the Orange would not trail again. The next batter, Bryce Holmgren, reached on a walk before advancing to second on a sac bunt and third on the Eagles' second error of the game. A wild pitch scored Holmgren for a 3-1 Syracuse lead.Â
Martin and Teran's two-run home runs in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively, separated the Orange even further for a 7-1 lead. The final run for Syracuse came on an RBI sac fly by Anya Gonzalez in the seventh inning.Â
After 29 consecutive games on the road, Syracuse comes home for its 2019 home opener on March 27. The Orange are scheduled to take on Niagara for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. Admission is free and the game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.Â
