SYRACUSE, N.Y. – No. 4/4 Syracuse scored the final four goals of the game to overcome a three-goal halftime deficit and defeat ACC-foe No. 12/8 Notre Dame at Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse. After trailing 8-5 at halftime, Syracuse outscored the Fighting Irish, 5-1, in the second half to record the 10-9 win.

"It was an ACC battle very similar to last year against them out at Notre Dame," Syracuse head coach Gary Gait said. "I thought our defense, again in the second half, really shut things down and gave us a chance to make that run and get a comeback going. Emily (Hawryschuk) came through at the end, buried her last couple of shots and stepped up when we needed her. I'm proud of this team for making plays when we needed them."

Junior Asa Goldstock stood strong in net for the Orange, making 11 saves. The performance pushed her over the 400-goal threshold for her career. Goldstock sits at No. 4 on Syracuse's all-time leader list with 409.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Syracuse (10-2, 3-1) got on the board first behind senior Nicole Levy's 20th goal of the season. Notre Dame quickly took the lead after, off the sticks of Samantha Lynch and Andie Aldave. Syracuse took the lead back with goals from sophomore Sam Swart and redshirt junior Cara Quimby. Notre Dame followed up with a goal from Maddie Howe to tie the game at three with 19:27 left.

An active opening 10 minutes continued through the rest of the half. Junior Emily Hawryschuk tallied her first goal of the afternoon, but Notre Dame (9-1, 2-1) responded with a three-goal run to gain a 6-4 advantage. Hawryschuk scored again for the Orange, but Notre Dame added two more before the end of the half to take an 8-5 lead heading to the locker room. It marked the first time Syracuse has trailed at intermission this season.

Offenses stalled in the second half after an early Syracuse goal from redshirt junior Mary Rahal. A 17 minute-scoring drought ended when Howe broke the deadlock with a goal for the Fighting Irish, reestablishing a three-goal lead, 9-6, with 10:17 left in the game.

Then came the Orange. The 'Cuse rattled off four goals in four minutes to erase the deficit and win the game. Swart started the scoring with a goal with 7:38 left to cut Notre Dame's lead to two. A minute and forty seconds later, Quimby added her second of the afternoon to cut the deficit to one. Hawryschuk then added her third and fourth of the afternoon to tie the game and take the lead with 3:38 to go. That would cap the Syracuse comeback, with the Orange walking away with a 10-9 victory, handing the Fighting Irish its first loss of the season.

OF NOTE
Hawryschuk's four goals on the afternoon bring her total to 129 career goals, which put her in 11th place on Syracuse's all-time list. She has scored four or more goals in a game 10 times this season, including eight straight.
Syracuse held Notre Dame to one goal in the second half. The one-goal half for an opponent is the fourth time this season that the Orange have held an opponent to one goal in a half. Syracuse is now 6-0 when allowing less than 10 goals.

Syracuse is back in the Carrier Dome on Wednesday, March 27 to take on Albany. The game, which will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra, caps a three-game homestand for the Orange, who visit Duke next Saturday, March 30.
