
Stoner and Aouani Shatter 10k Records

Paige Stoner and Iliass Aouani started their 2019 season with school record performances at the Stanford Invitational, highlighting a successful three-meet weekend for the Orange.
Stoner shattered the old 10k record, held by Margo Malone, by 22 seconds, crossing the line in 32:07.36, to finish fourth overall and second among collegiate competitors in the invite section of the event. Boise State's Allie Ostrander edged her by less than a second for the collegiate win. Teammate Laura Dickinson (33:37.37) started her season off strong in the event as well.
Stoner now holds the 3000-meter steeplechase, 5k and 10k Syracuse records.
Aouani broke both the Syracuse and ACC record in the 10k, with a time of 28:25.36. He bested Martin Hehir's record by two seconds in what was a ninth-place finish in the meet filled with professionals. Joe Dragon placed 24th in the event as well.
Aidan Tooker had a strong debut as well, racing to a personal best time of 13:48.55 in the invite section of the 5k. He finished sixth overall. Freshman Michael Phillips (14:20.65) also raced for the Orange. Rachel Bonner competed in the event for the Orange women, crossing the line in 16:05.68, good for sixth in her section. Melissa Lodge (17:28.13) made her outdoor collegiate debut at the meet, finishing in 17:28.13.
In Florida, the Orange started their 110-meter hurdles group off against top-tier competition. Matt Moore led the way, finishing in 10th in 14.12 seconds. Richard Floyd (14.24) finished 16th, while Andrew Aguilera (14.86) placed 37th and Kelvin Almnote (15.30) took 48th. Defending NCAA indoor champion Grant Holloway (13.28) won the event.
Freshman Alexis Crosby turned in a time of 55.00 in the 400-meter dash, good for 32nd in her outdoor debut. Aviana Goode raced in the 100-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 13.99 seconds for 27th.
At the Raleigh Relays, more 10k and 5k PRs highlighted the evening.
Madeleine Davison finished fourth in the women's 10,000-meters with a time of 35:28.23. Dominic Hockenbury also turned in a top-10 finish for the men, crossing the line in 29:48.05.
In the 5k, freshman Matthew Scrape (14:06.21) turned in a 17th-place finish, followed by Nathan Henderson (14:15.40), Noah Beveridge (14:15.92) and Simon Smith (14.16.01), who finished in succession. Abigail Spiers competed in the event for the women, turning in a time of 16:52.46, good for 47th.
John Flannery (3:56.18) got his season started in the 1500-meters.
Action at the Florida Relays continues on Saturday.
