BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Syracuse women's hockey team exploded for four second-period goals, erasing an early deficit before cruising to a 4-1 win over Lindenwood in the quarterfinals of the 2019 College Hockey America Tournament Wednesday night inside the Harborcenter.
The sixth-seeded Orange advance to the semifinals with the victory, where they will face second-seeded Mercyhurst at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7.
Tickets are $10 per day for adults and $5 for students. Adults can also purchase a full tournament pass for $25. All games will be streamed on the CHA Digital Network.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0 at the start of the second period, the Orange held a commanding 4-1 lead just 20 minutes later.
Junior Anonda Hoppner tied the game at one apiece with her goal two minutes into the second period. Junior forward Logan Hicks provided the assist on Hoppner's tally.
A few minutes later, it was a freshman that delivered what proved to be the game-winning goal for the Orange.
Forward Abby Moloughney, who was named to the conference's All-Rookie Team yesterday, scored her ninth of the year on a power-play opportunity off an assist from sophomore defenseman Jessica DiGirolamo to put the Orange ahead for good. Moloughney's goal gave Syracuse a 2-1 lead with 13 minutes left to play in the second period.
The Orange would go on to score twice more in the period, courtesy of junior forward Kelli Rowswell and senior defenseman Allie Munroe, to put the finishing touches on the 4-1 victory. Hoppner and junior forward Savannah Rennie assisted on Rowswell's goal, while redshirt junior defenseman Lindsay Eastwood and freshman forward Lauren Bellefontaine chipped in on Munroe's goal.
