GREENSBORO, N.C. – Syracuse women's tennis senior Gabriela Knutson was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday, April 16. It is the second time Knutson has won the conference's weekly award this season.
Knutson, who is currently ranked No. 13 in singles and No. 56 in doubles, went 2-0 in singles play and won a doubles match last week. She defeated Duke's then-No. 13 Maria Mateas and Clemson's then-No. 82 Marie Leduc in singles, and she teamed up with junior Miranda Ramirez in doubles to take down Duke's No. 69 pair of Kelly Chen and Ellyse Hamlin.
As the Orange's top singles player, she completed the regular season with a 15-7 overall singles record and an 8-5 mark in conference play, defeating a team-high eight nationally ranked opponents. In doubles, Knutson finished the regular season with a 12-9 overall record, playing all of her matches at the No. 1 position with Ramirez.
Knutson, who also took home the conference's weekly honor in January, and the rest of the Orange next compete at the ACC Championship. Ninth-seeded Syracuse will play eighth-seeded Georgia Tech in the second round at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18, inside Cary Tennis Park in Cary, North Carolina.
The winner advances to Friday's quarterfinal for a showdown against top-seeded North Carolina. All the action will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.Â
