SYRACUSE, N.Y. – A solo home run by freshman Alexis Kaiser highlighted the day for Syracuse as Pitt won the final game of the series, 6-1, Sunday afternoon. Pitt (9-38, 4-14 ACC) successfully shut out Syracuse (19-25, 8-10 ACC) through the first five innings of the game.
Kaiser's home run in the fifth inning broke open a no-hit bid by Pittsburgh's Sarah Dawson, who had previously allowed just one base runner, Bryce Holmgren, on a hit by pitch. Lailoni Mayfield registered the only other hit of the day for Syracuse, with a hard hit ball down the first base line in the seventh inning.
The Panthers offense came out strong with an RBI-triple by Walker Barbee before a sac fly gave Pitt it's 2-0 lead after the second inning. Pitt continued to connect offensively with a solo home run in the third followed by a two-run shot in the fourth, extending its lead to 5-0. The Panthers scored their final run of the day in the fifth inning after a lead off walk and fly out put Olivia Gray in scoring position. A single by Gabrielle Frederick scored Gray from second base.
Alexa Romero threw a full five innings before exiting the game following a double by Pitt in the sixth inning. Romero (13-9) allowed six runs (five earned) on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Miranda Hearn entered in relief, retiring all five batters she faced in order. The sophomore struck out three.

Syracuse looks to get back on track with a doubleheader Tuesday at Binghamton. The twin bill is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
