
Softball Faces Binghamton Midweek

VESTAL, N.Y. – The Syracuse softball team returns to the road this week with a mid-week matchup against in-state opponent, Binghamton, on Tuesday, April 23. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
Syracuse (19-25) is coming off a weekend series against Atlantic Coast Conference opponent, Pitt. The Orange opened the weekend with a convincing 10-0 five-inning victory which included a 3-for-3 performance by sophomore Gabby Teran. Alexis Kaiser highlighted the weekend with a pair of homeruns, adding to her total of five on the season. Kaiser's five homeruns are the most by a Syracuse freshman since 2016.
Miranda Hearn showed tremendous control in the circle over the weekend, pitching a total of seven innings between two games. She started the game two of the series against Pitt, going over five innings for just the second time this season. The sophomore was responsible for one run off of three hits and tallied four strikeouts. In her last four appearances, Hearn has allowed just one earned run.
Binghamton (15-24) is looking to challenge the Orange in their final non-conference game of the season after losing a series against Hartford last weekend. The Bearcats split Friday's doubleheader before losing the series in game three. Makayla Alvarez led Binghamton with a 3-for-6 performance in the doubleheader, including two runs scored and a homerun. Marissa Braito has been a big boost to the Bearcats this season, as the freshman has a team-best .331 batting average including five triples. Rayn Gibson has seen the bulk of innings this season for Binghamton with 93.2 innings pitched. Gibson has a 4.26 ERA and 94 strikeouts on the season.
Syracuse holds a 23-3 advantage in the all-time series against Binghamton dating back to 2000. The Orange have won the last three meetings between the programs by a combined score of 27-6.
The Orange return to ACC action this weekend with a three-game road series against Georgia Tech, April 26-28. All three games will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
