TEMPE, Ariz. - Syracuse women's tennis head coach Younes Limam, associate head coach Shelley George and senior Gabriela Knutson have garnered ITA Regional Awards.Â
Limam was honored as the Wilson/ITA Coach of the Year, George earned ITA Assistant Coach of the Year and Knutson was named ITA Senior Player of the Year. The Orange claimed three of the nine awards in the women's Northeast region, the most by any school.
It's the first time Limam has won the award in his coaching career. Previously, he was the 2011Â ITA Assistant Coach of the Year (Texas) while at Rice, helping to lead the Owls to a 14-10 record.
The 2019 campaign was perhaps Limam's most successful to date. Syracuse advanced to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship for the first time in school history, as Limam guided the Orange into the top 10 of the Oracle/ITA poll for the first time in program history.Â
Syracuse punched its ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four seasons, advancing to the second round before losing to then-No. 2 North Carolina.
George's honor is the first of her coaching career. George has roamed the Syracuse sidelines for the past 12 seasons, playing a key role in all three of the Orange's trips to the NCAA Tournament.
Knutson, meanwhile, has been recognized with ITA Regional Awards before. The two-time All-ACC First Team honoree was named the ITA Northeast Rookie of the Year and Player to Watch as a freshman in 2016.
The native of Dvur Králové nad Labem, Czech Republic, earned a bid to the NCAA Singles Championship for the second campaign in a row in 2019. She compiled a 15-7 singles record this spring, going 8-5 against nationally ranked opponents and picking up two victories over top-five opponents.Â
