Syracuse has scheduled a non-conference game with Oakland to be played on December 18, in the Dome. The contest features two of the longest-tenured coaches in the Division I ranks.
Â
While Syracuse mentor Jim Boeheim is preparing for his 44th season at his alma mater, Oakland coach Greg Kampe has embarked on his 36th season with the Golden Grizzlies.
Â
The Orange and the Golden Grizzlies have squared off three times previously. All three outings were played at the Dome. The most recent encounter was a November 20, 2017 clash won by Syracuse, 74-50. The Orange also captured Dome pairings with Oakland on November 21, 2008 (86-66) and December 22, 2009 (92-60).
Â
Kampe has produced a 618-455 (.575) record at the Oakland helm. He guided the Golden Grizzlies to a 16-17 mark and a third-place finish in the Horizon League last season. Oakland features redshirt senior guard Xavier Hill-Mais, who averaged a club-best 18.3 points and 7.2 rebounds last season.
Â
Syracuse was 20-14 and claimed a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year in 2018-19. Redshirt junior Elijah Hughes (13.7 ppg.) is a returning starter for the Orange.
