
Three Orange Named to All-ACC Academic Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Syracuse redshirt junior Mary Rahal leads a group of three members of the Orange selected to the All-ACC Academic Team, which was announced on Thursday, June 20. Rahal is joined on the squad by freshmen Sarah Cooper and Meaghan Tyrrell. It marks the first appearance on the All-ACC Academic Team for the trio.

Rahal played in all 21 games in 2019, making 18 starts in the midfield. She earned All-Northeast Region First Team and All-ACC Second Team honors after posting 36 points on 22 goals and a career-high 14 assists. She also contributed a career-best 24 ground balls and caused eight turnovers. Rahal is majoring in information management and technology.

Cooper and Tyrrell made an immediate impact on the Orange in their rookie campaigns. Cooper started all 21 games on defense and led the squad in caused turnovers (33). She also ranked second in ground balls (36) and draw controls (42). Cooper was voted ACC Freshman of the Year and was a member of the All-ACC Second Team as well as the All-Northeast Region First Team. She is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Tyrrell ranked second on the team in points (57) and goals (37) in 2019. She also was third in assists with 20. She played in all 21 games, making 20 starts. Tyrrell scored at least one goal in 19 games and posted three or more goals in six contests. She is majoring in public relations.

Syracuse finished the 2019 campaign with a 16-5 record. The Orange earned the No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the quarterfinals for the sixth time in the last eight years.
