Aouani Takes 20th at NCAA Championship

Iliass Aouani placed 20th in the NCAA 10,000-meter final, crossing the line in 30:54.96.
On a hot and humid night in Austin, Texas, Aouani hung with the lead pack for the first-eight laps of the race before slowly drifting off the pace. BYU's Clayton Young would claim the title in 29:16.60.
Aouani, a native of Milan, Italy concludes his junior season of outdoor eligibility with the ACC record in the 10,000-meters, ACC Championships in the 5k and 10k and Honorable Mention All-America honors. The 24-runner field featured 12 seniors, so the future is bright for Aouani's final campaign with the Orange.
"I felt the conditions a bit today," Aouani said afterwards. "I tried to hang on to the pack but I just felt a little flat. It wasn't what I was hoping for, but I'll learn from this race."
Paige Stoner and Laura Dickinson are next up for 'Cuse in Austin. The duo will race in the women's 10,000-meter final on Thursday at 10:38 p.m. eastern. The race is scheduled to be televised on ESPN2.
