Syracuse, N.Y. – Meg Varcoe, a rising junior on the Syracuse University women's rowing team, has been selected to the United States U23 roster for the U23 World Rowing Championships as a member of the women's four. Additionally, Arianna Lee '19 will make her second-straight appearance at the U23 World Championships as a member of Team USA's women's quadruple sculls. Racing takes place July 24-28 in Sarasota, Fla. The U.S. will have 22 crews competing at the five-day event.
Varcoe, a biochemistry major in Syracuse's College of Arts and Sciences, stroked the Orange varsity eight to a third-place finish this season at the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championships. She was named All-ACC First Team and garnered Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) All-America honors.
Lee graduated in May with a degree in computer engineering from Syracuse's College of Engineering & Computer Science. She was a four-time All-ACC Academic selection and a staple in the Syracuse varsity eight. Lee was one of three Syracuse student-athletes awarded an ACC Postgraduate Scholarship and was also named a CRCA Scholar-Athlete.
The Sarasota-Bradenton regatta course will be nothing new to the Orange duo who competed there during the 2018 NCAA Championships when 'Cuse qualified as an at-large bid.
