Indianapolis – Syracuse University alumna and WNBA Atlanta Dream forward Brittney Sykes reached a career milestone in Saturday's 87-82 loss to the Indiana Fever when she tallied her 1,000th career point. It took Sykes 87 games to reach the milestone. She is averaging 11.6 points per game during her WNBA career.
"Brittney is a prolific scorer," Syracuse head coach Quentin Hillsman said. "That is just what she is!"
Sykes, the third-highest scorer in Syracuse history, tallied 1,846 points in 138 games for the Orange. She was the fifth Syracuse women's basketball student-athlete to collect All-America honors when she was named WBCA Division I Coaches All-America Honorable Mention as a senior. She went on to be selected seventh overall by the Atlanta Dream in 2017, becoming the highest WNBA Draft pick in program history for Syracuse.
The former Orange standout was a 2017 WNBA All-Rookie Team selection and helped the Dream to the East Conference Finals in 2018 with a franchise best 23-11 record.
This season, Sykes has appeared in 24 games with 17 starts. Atlanta is 5-19 overall and 2-11 in conference play. Sykes and the Dream next face the Las Vegas Aces Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 10 p.m. ET.
