WASHINGTON, D.C. – Syracuse faces a tough challenge when it opens the season at No. 13 Georgetown on Friday, Aug. 30. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.

SETTING THE SCENE
Syracuse is 7-2 in season openers under the direction of head coach Ian McIntyre. The Orange posted a 7-7-4 record in 2018 and earned the No. 16 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Syracuse received 45 votes in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll.

RAPOSO RETURNS
The Orange return five of their top six scorers from last season, including sophomore Ryan Raposo. He led the team with seven assists a year ago and finished second on the squad with 15 points. Raposo was voted to the ACC All-Freshman Team.

THE SERIES
The former conference foes will meet for the 19th time. Georgetown leads the all-time series, 11-5-2. The Hoyas and Orange last met in the 2014 NCAA Tournament, where Georgetown posted a 2-1 victory in overtime.

SCOUTING THE HOYAS
Georgetown finished the 2018 campaign with a 13-5-3 record. The Hoyas advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament where they lost to Michigan State, 1-0.

Senior Dylan Nealis was named the BIG EAST Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, while junior Derek Dodson was selected as the conference's Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. The pair was joined on the Preseason All-BIG EAST squad by senior forward Achara.

UP NEXT
