TEMPE, Ariz. – The Syracuse tennis team earned three preseason ITA Division I women's rankings, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced on Tuesday. Senior Miranda Ramirez enters the year ranked 64th in singles, while junior Sofya Golubovskaya is ranked 81st. Golubovskaya and sophomore teammate Sofya Treshcheva earned the 34th spot in the preseason doubles ranking.
Â
Ramirez enters her senior year following her team-best 18 singles victories in 2018. Her junior season was highlighted by her earning All-ACC Third Team honors and beating three nationally ranked opponents. Ramirez picked up 14 doubles victories with former All-American teammate Gabriela Knutson too. The San Antonio, Texas native ended the year ranked at No. 67 in singles.
Â
Junior Sofya Golubovskaya, who played much of last season in second and third singles, finished last year with 12 singles wins and eight doubles victories. She was the only Orannge to earn a singles win in the second-round of the 2018 NCAA tournament vs. Stanford. The Moscow, Russia native was ranked No. 92 in singles and No. 24 in doubles at the beginning of last year's spring season.
Â
Trescheva played to a 7-6 mark in doubles last season while paired with Golubovskaya, and the duo won the doubles title at the ITA National Regional Championship during the 2018 fall season.
Syracuse opened the fall campaign last weekend at the Princeton Invitation where freshman Kim Hansen and senior Guzal Yusupova each won three singles matches. Playing in three series of hidden doubles matches and three singles draws, the Orange won five doubles sets and 11 singles matches over three days. Syracuse returns to the courts next weekend for the Milwaukee Tennis Classic Sept. 20-23 in Fox Point, Wisc. where they'll be represented by Ramirez and Yusupova.
