Track Kicks off 2020 with Wins at Cornell

The Syracuse men's and women's track and field teams returned to action on Saturday with a trip to Cornell's Barton Hall for the Southern Tier Invitational. The meet, which kicked off a month of rust since the Orange's last meet, featured multiple 'Cuse wins to kick off 2020.
'Cuse ended the day with a clean sweep of the 4x400-meter relays. The women's group of Cheyenne Trigg, Shaleah Colaire, Eunice Boateng and Bearett Tarris turned in a time of 3:55.51, which beat the field by over 11 seconds. The men's team won by an even larger margin. The group of Jamil Adams, Andrew Aguilera, Jordan Davenport and Chase Balick closed in a time of 3:30.26, 22 seconds ahead of the field.
The top-five spots in the women's 1,000-meter run were swept by the Orange. Abigail Walsh (3:11.99) picked up the meet win, followed by Kate Kemnitz, Kelsey Potts, Kayli Jones and Bearett Tarris, who all finished within six seconds of Walsh's time.
Syracuse then took four of the top-five spots in the women's 3000-meter run. Freshman Emily Nugent (10:42.14) defeated the rest of the field by 14 seconds to take the overall win. Maggie Toczko, Elizabeth Cultra and Eva Scott took third through fifth, respectively.
Freshman Shaleah Colaire picked up the win in the 60-meter hurdles, posting a time of 8.77 seconds. 'Cuse then took four of the top-five spots in the men's 60-meter hurdles. Tyler Garland won the meet (8.01), followed by Adams (8.09) and Naseem Smith (8.26) in second and third. Aguilera (8.40) took fifth overall.
Freshman Chase Balick (2:03.02) won the 800-meters, followed by teammates Connor Preson, Ryan Jermyn and Austin Rucker in succession to sweep the top-four spots.
Matthew Dragon finished third in the men's 3000-meter run.
