SYRACUSE, N.Y. – After building a 25-point, first-half lead, Syracuse cruised to its second consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) victory, defeating Boston College, 76-50, Wednesday night in the Carrier Dome.
Buddy Boeheim led all players with 22 points on 9-of-17 shooting including a game-high four 3-pointers. Marek Dolezaj recorded his second double-double in his last four games with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
FIRST HALF RUN CARRIES ORANGE
Ten points from Boeheim, including seven in a row and two 3-balls, as well as nine points from Elijah Hughes propelled the Orange to a commanding lead late in the half. Syracuse closed the first 20 minutes on a 27-6 run in 9:12 of action and led 38-13 at the break. Boeheim went to the locker room with 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting and Dolezaj paced the Orange with seven rebounds.
Syracuse shot 46.4 percent (13-28) from the field and was 5-for-11 from beyond the arc in the opening half. The Orange held Boston College without a 3-point shot made in the first half on 12 attempts and the Eagles converted only five of their 27 field-goal tries.
The 13 points yielded by the Orange represented the best defensive half posted by Syracuse this season.
SLEEPY OFFENSIVE START
Offense was nearly nonexistent in the opening 8:38 of the contest, as Syracuse led 6-3 and the teams shot a combined 3-for-19 from the field. 'Cuse forced five Eagle turnovers in the slow scoring stretch and all six points came on the fast break.
