How it happened:
Three-point field goals were the story in the opening quarter, with Syracuse hitting five and the Panthers draining four, leading to a 22-17 advantage for the Panthers after 10 minutes of play. Cooper accounted for two of Syracuse's five treys. Pitt junior Gabbie Green sparked the Panthers in their 15-8 start with 10 points, including two three-point field goals.
Â
The Orange took over the game in the second quarter, outscoring the Panthers 27-11 and holding Pitt without a field goal for eight minutes to take a 44-33 lead into the locker room. Early in the quarter, Syracuse used a two minute, 10-0 run to overcome a 26-19 deficit and take a 29-26 lead four minutes in. Strautmane ignited the run with a three-point field goal, and Djaldi-Tabdi scored two baskets and took a charge on the defensive end in the middle of the run. Strautmane, Djaldi-Tabdi and Kiara Lewis each had six points in the second period.
Â
Syracuse maintained the advantage for the rest of the 69-51 win. The 18-point margin of victory is the biggest for the Orange since an 82-48 win against UMBC on December 8, 2019.
