Syracuse (9-10, 3-5 ACC) welcomes ACC foe Virginia Tech (15-4. 5-3 ACC) to the Carrier Dome on Thursday night at 8:00 p.m. on ACC Network. 'Cuse looks to get back on track after dropping its last two games, while the Hokies visit Central New York on a three-game win streak.
It is Professional Women of Syracuse Night in the dome, co-hosted by Syracuse Women's Basketball and Women in Sports and Events (WISE) at SU. The event features a pregame panel beginning at 6:45 in Club 44 featuring five prominent Syracuse women who work in the sports industry.
The Orange are returning home after a hard-fought 65-60 loss at Wake Forest last Sunday. Kiara Lewis led the way for 'Cuse with 17 points, her ninth straight game leading the team in scoring. Emily Engstler, Digna Strautmane, and Maeva Djaldi-Tabdi all had multiple blocks, which has become a theme for the Orange's defense. Syracuse's 104 blocked shots lead the ACC and is seventh in the nation, while the team's 5.9 blocked shots per game also leads the conference and ranks 11th in the country. Both Engstler and Djaldi-Tabdi have reached 30 blocks putting them both in the top-5 in the ACC.
The Hokies have hit their stride, coming off a convincing 71-50 victory over Clemson at home on Sunday. Virginia Tech has four players averaging double-figures in points. Aisha Sheppard (16.6), Dara Mabrey (12.7), Elizabeth Kitley (11.4), and Trinity Baptiste (10.2). However, Taja Cole led the way in Tech's last win, scoring 15 points. The Hokies made eight three-pointers in the win, which was nothing new for Kenny Brooks' squad. Virginia Tech leads the conference in three-point shooting, making more than 36 percent of their shots from behind the arc.
The Orange lead the overall series versus the Hokies, 7-6. Syracuse looks to continue their momentum against Virginia Tech after a thrilling overtime win in Blacksburg last season.
