Syracuse women's basketball Head Coach Quentin Hillsman has signed a top-15 recruiting class for the fourth time in the last five years. The five-player class, ranked No. 11 by ESPN, includes four players ranked in the ESPN HoopGurlz Top-100.
"This class is special," Hillsman said. "When you add a top-15 class to the No. 4 class in the country that means that you have stacked two great classes. That is how you win a championship; you need to have two or three classes stacked in a row that are filled with quality players and quality people. And we did that."
The 2021 recruiting class is highlighted by Toronto natives and high school teammates Latasha Lattimore and Shayeann Day-Wilson, Texas natives Amani Bartlett and Nyah Wilson and three-time Washington state scoring leader Julianna Walker.
Latasha Lattimore
A four-star recruit with a 93 rating by ESPN, Lattimore helped guide Crestwood Prep to back-to-back OSBA Championships. She is the No. 38 player in the class of 2021 and No. 6 forward. As a junior, the Toronto native averaged 17.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game during the regular season. In the 2020 playoffs she averaged 16.9 points, 9.3 rebounds and tallied five blocks en route to the second-straight league championship. Lattimore, a 6-foot-4 forward, is the No. 1 international recruit according to World Exposure Report and is No. 36 overall in the class.
Q's Take:Â Â Latasha is a typical hybrid player. She can play the 2 through the 5 for us. She can shoot the ball from the perimeter, she can put the ball on the floor and play at the rim, and she has the ability to create for her teammates. That is going to make her really tough to guard in our offense with spacing.
Shayeann Day-Wilson
Ranked No. 41 overall in the Class of 2021 by ESPN HoopGurlz, Day-Wilson is a four-star recruit and the No. 9 point guard in her class. Day-Wilson is considered Canada's top point guard and helped lead Crestwood Prep to two-straight OSBA Championships with fellow Orange signee Lattimore. Day-Wilson averaged 13.2 points, 5.1 assists and 5.1 rebounds per game during the regular season as a junior. In the OSBA Championship Game in 2020 she tallied 18 points, eight assists and six rebounds for her team. The 5-foot-5 point guard is the No. 11 international recruit according to World Exposure Report and No. 39 overall.
Q's Take:Â Shayeann is a very explosive guard. She plays fast, she plays up-tempo, she plays our way. She can score the ball on all three levels and she is going to be a fantastic point guard in our system.
Amani Bartlett
Bartlett is the No. 51 ranked player in the Class of 2021 with a four-star rating and a 93-scout grade from ESPN HoopGurlz. The Houston Christian High School star is ranked No. 12 among forwards in her class. The Houston, Texas native was the 2019-20 SPC Most Valuable Player, 2020 VYPE Private School Player of the Year and was named to the 2019-20 SPC First Team. The 6-foot-3 forward ranks No. 50 in the World Exposure Report.
Q's Take:Â Â Amani is a super athlete. She plays up on the rim and runs from end-to-end as fast as anybody in the country. She is super athletic. She will have a chance to come into our system and play fast in our offense and equally as fast in our defense.
Nyah Wilson
Wilson, a Duncanville, Texas native, is a 5-foot-8 guard that is ranked No. 99 in the ESPN HoopGurlz Top-100. She is the No. 42 ranked guard and helped Duncanville to a Texas State Championship, the school's 11th 6A title. Wilson is ranked No. 97 according to World Exposure Report and the No. 8 player in Texas.
Q's Take:Â Nyah is a combo guard that can play both of our positions. She can shoot the ball from the perimeter and can guard all perimeter spots. Her special quality is her leadership and the way she can run a team.
Julianna Walker
Walker, a three-time Tacoma Athletic Commission Athlete of the Year, is the No. 98 recruit in the country according to World Exposure Report. The 5-foot-5 guard helped Annie Wright High School to a 20-7 record in 2019-20 and a 10-0 district record. She is a three-time Associated Press All-State selection, two-time Nisqually Player of the Year and was the Emerald City League Rookie of the Year in 2018. She has scored 2,491 points in three seasons and is 502 points away from the Washington state all-time scoring record entering her senior season. Walker averages 35.6 points, 4.9 assists and 7.7 steals and has been the state's scoring leader all three years of her high school career.
Q's Take:Â Julianna is just a prolific scorer. She really shoots the ball from the perimeter; she will be a natural floor spacer in our offense. She is going to be the kind of player that can make seven, eight threes a game if you let her get loose.
