
Orange Face Tar Heels in Primetime

No. 18/16 Syracuse travels to North Carolina (5-2) for its second Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) matchup of the season Thursday night. The Orange and Tar Heels will tip-off at 8 p.m. on ACC Network. Syracuse (4-0) leads the all-time series 7-2 and is looking for its sixth-straight win vs. the Tar Heels.Â
The Orange began ACC play on the road for the fifth-straight year when they defeated Miami 69-58 a week ago Thursday. It was Syracuse's first win at the Watsco Center since February 2016. Tiana Mangakahia and Kamilla Cardoso each had 14 points to lead Syracuse in scoring. The Orange moved up two spots in the latest Associated Press (AP) Top-25 Poll to No. 18 this week and jumped to No. 16 in the USA Today/WBCA Coaches Poll after the 1-0 week.Â
North Carolina began the season 5-0 but has lost both of its last two games against ACC opponents. The Tar Heels began ACC play on the road with a 57-54 loss at Wake Forest and most recently fell to Miami 67-63 on Monday afternoon. Four members of second year head coach Courtney Banghart's squad are averaging double figures through seven games and the Heels are led by Deja Kelly with 12.3 points per game.
Last time the two teams met was Feb. 13, 2020. Syracuse earned a 74-56 win over UNC. Kiara Lewis and Digna Strautmane each had 17 points while Emily Engstler had a double double with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Janelle Bailey was second in scoring for Carolina with 12 points and seven boards. The Tar Heel senior is averaging 12.0 points per game and is shooting 55.6 percent from the field this season.Â
